OAR acts as a portal for cancer-related advocacy groups, helping to navigate the NCI and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to gain information and achieve organizational goals. OAR identifies opportunities for organizational collaboration and advocate involvement. OAR also addresses advocate resource and training needs, in addition to building and maintaining relationships.

Advocacy Outreach
NCI understands the need for easily accessible, reliable cancer related information.  In addition to the information on the Science Serving People website, OAR can provide cutting-edge, research-based information to help your organization plan and communicate with various groups. Also, OAR can connect you with NCI experts to provide new perspectives or greater insight into current developments across the cancer continuum. Contact nciadvocacy@mail.nih.gov regarding your organization’s needs.
OAR's website is updated daily with activities you can be involved in at Federal Agencies. View opportunities to provide public comment on government regulations, participate in upcoming meetings, conferences, or workshops, or learn about other Federal programs where consumer advocates may participate.
Subscribe to the OAR Listserv and receive both the NCI Nealon Digest and periodic Email Alerts for anyone interested in cancer research and patient advocacy.

The NCI Nealon Digest is an electronic listing of all Federal cancer news, in digest form, from the most recent two-week period. The NCI Nealon Digest is delivered every other Wednesday to your inbox.

Periodic Email Alerts are sent to listserv subscribers, alerting you to important events and news.
Understanding NCI: Toll-Free Teleconference Series
Understanding NCI is a free monthly teleconference series about NCI programs and activities. Each teleconference features key NCI program leadership and a member of the advocacy community. All callers have ample opportunity to ask questions. Teleconferences are recorded and available for playback for one month. Every call is toll-free and no registration is required. Please view our schedule and mark your calendars today!

Hot Topic Teleconferences
OAR hosts teleconferences on late-breaking cancer news. These teleconferences allow advocates to speak directly to NCI leadership or principle investigators in order to access the most up-to-date and accurate information. Members of the advocacy community can then disseminate timely and important information to their constituents. View our OAR Teleconferences page for listings.
Listening and Learning Together: Building a Bridge of Trust was a summit for the cancer advocacy community by the NCI Director's Consumer Liaison Group (DCLG). NCI and DCLG hosted this successful summit for the advocacy community on June 19 and 20, 2006. If you were not able to join us in person you can view the Listening and Learning Together: Building a Bridge of Trust webcast (Day 1 or Day 2). You can also review Everything Advocates Want to Know About NCI (PDF), the summit Town Hall Summary and Response.  The summit evaluation report discusses outcomes and results.
