What is the current status of the Family History Validation Study?

The telephone interviews were completed in October, 2001. Validation of cancer reports began in 2002 and was completed in 2005. The analyses will yield estimates of sensitivity and specificity of positive and negative reports of lung, prostate, colorectal, breast, and ovarian cancers in first- and second-degree relatives. Other cancer sites will be evaluated if numbers permit. We will also explore relationships between demographic, psychosocial, and medical factors associated with reporting accuracy. Preliminary descriptive analyses are ongoing to assess family structure data and cancer reporting behavior.
