Dr. Paul N. Hengen

ABOUT MY CARICATURE:

While on vacation in Paris during the spring of 1995 I walked past a street artist doing caricatures at Notre Dame. He was very enthusiastic and definitely had to do me because I am the perfect model for his kind of work. No doubt he couldn't allow the perfect (odd) face to pass him by, and besides, he needed some work. So, reluctantly I agreed to model. When he was done I thought it was very funny and paid him 150 francs for it. Unfortunately, I didn't even get his name. When I returned from my trip, I photographed the charcoal sketch and scanned it into digital form. I then used Aldus Photostyler to remove some bad areas and replace a lost hair strand or two to touch it up. The animation of the picture was added later using Adobe Photoshop and the gifmerge program I found on the Web. When I jokingly told the editors of TIBS to look at my homepage for my picture, they told me they wanted to use it as my signature. Beginning in the August 1995 issue, the picture will appear on my column in TIBS. I hope that you enjoyed my picture, because I had fun playing with it.
