Dorothy Waugh, who created this poster, was at the time of this work, the art production supervisor of the National Park Service. Travel in America is also one of the many themes that appeared during the period of the Works Projects Administration, Federal Art Project, from 1935-1943. Waugh's style in this work is similar to many of the WPA travel posters, but was done, by and for, the National Park Service. Among her many talents, Waugh was the manager of the children's book department at Alfred A. Knopf while art supervisor for the National Park Service. She was appointed special lecturer and critic at the New York School of fine art where she also taught typography and design.
