Tips for Riding Metro to Events

• Buy multiple farecards faster and easier by using the Passes/Farecards machine at Metrorail stations.
• Buy round-trip fare when first entering the system.
• Keep farecards clean and dry so they will work on the return trip home.
• When attending events at the Verizon Center, utilize other Metrorail stations in the vicinity, including Metro Center, Judiciary Square, and Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter.
• Listen to station and train announcements. Check the final destination displayed on the side of the train to be sure you're boarding the right train.

Nationals Park, located in southeast Washington along the Anacostia River, is the home of the Washington Nationals. For season schedules and stadium and ticket information, please visit the Washington Nationals website.

Metrorail Service

Nationals Park is only a half-block walk from the Navy Yard station on the Green line. The Nationals Ballpark entrance (West entrance) will be an exit only, starting 3 hours before games, and an entrance only after games. During games, the Navy Yard Station New Jersey Ave entrance (East entrance) should be used by riders traveling in the opposite direction of the crowds.

Metrobus Service

After a Nationals game, avoid the crowds at Navy Yard station (and connect to Eastern Market or Union Station) by taking the N22 Metrobus, which stops at Navy Yard station every 10 minutes.

Parking at a Metro Station

Wolf Trap, in Vienna, VA, is home to a wide array of year-round performing arts shows and education. Visit the Wolf Trap website for a complete events calendar and ticket information. Metro service is provided for performances at the Filene Center during the performance season, which runs from late May to September.

Ride Metro to Wolf Trap

1. Take Metrorail's Orange Line, any of the convenient Metrobus Routes (3B, 28A, and 28B) or drive to the West Falls Church-VT/UVA station. Parking is free at the station on weekends and holidays and on weeknights when you leave the station after 10 p.m.
2. Ride the Wolf Trap Metro Shuttle Bus Express, which leaves the West Falls Church-VT/UVA station every 20 minutes, starting two hours before each perfomance. The last shuttle leaves the station at showtime. Round trip fare is just $5 per person (exact change is required).
3. Returning, the bus leaves Wolf Trap 20 minutes after the performance ends or no later than 11 p.m., whichever comes first.

Please note: Service is available for every Filene Center season performance except Wolf Trap Opera Company performances, Summer Blast-Off, and International Children's Festival. The Wolf Trap Metro Shuttle Bus does not serve the Barns of Wolf Trap.

Metrorail Service to FedEx Field

Under federal transit regulations, Metro is prohibited from offering shuttle bus service between the Landover station and Redskins games at FedEx Field.

One option fans have is direct Metrorail service to FedEx Field. The Morgan Boulevard station on the Blue Line is the closest station to FedEx Field. The station is nine-tenths of a mile from the stadium and a new walkway offers direct access to the stadium. The Largo Town Center station, also on the Blue Line, is one mile away from the stadium.

Parking Procedures at Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center

Non-Metrorail patrons who park at the Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center stations to attend special designated events at FedEx Field will be required to pay $25 via their SmarTrip cards.

Metro's premium parking program requires Metrorail riders who park at the Morgan Boulevard or Largo Town Center Metrorail stations during events at FedEx Field to use a SmarTrip® card to exit during events because the SmarTrip® card allows Metro to charge rail customers using the station for transit to park and pay the regular parking rate ($3.50 on weekdays) or park for free on weekends.

For non-Metrorail patrons parking at these facilities who do not have a SmarTrip® card, Metro personnel will be on hand at each game to sell a SmarTripreg card for $30, which includes a $5 fee for purchasing the card. Metro encourages fans to retain these cards for future use, either to use the rail system or to use at these parking facilities if they wish to park there again. Metro also encourages customers to register the SmarTrip® card online for protection in case of loss or theft.

Appropriate signage at these parking facilities, along with personnel from several Metro departments including Metro Transit Police, will be available to assist fans with questions on parking procedures.

The non-Metrorail patron fee is in place three hours prior to event time and remains in effect until two hours after the event. This fee ensures that a premium market-based parking fee is charged to patrons attending these events.

The Verizon Center, between 6th, 7th, and F Streets, NW, hosts more than 200 events a year, and is home to the Washington Capitals, Mystics, and Wizards and the Georgetown Hoyas.

Normal events are scheduled to end before midnight, allowing adequate time to use Metrorail. When the occasional delay or overtime game occurs, Metrorail service will be extended. Convenient Metrorail service is available at several stations around the Verizon Center to relieve congestion. The Metrorail stations are:

RFK Stadium, located at 2400 East Capitol Street, SE, is host to DC United, other sports events, numerous concerts, religious convocations, and other special events. Ride Metro to RFK Stadium by taking Metrorail's Orange or Blue line to Stadium-Armory, or Ride Metrobus routes D6, 96, 97 or B2.

George Mason University's Patriot Center hosts a wide array of sporting and cultural events. Visit the Patriot Center's homepage for a list of upcoming events, directions, tickets, and other information. Ride Metro to the Patriot Center by taking an Orange Line train to the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU station, then ride the connecting CUE buses Green 1,2 or Gold 1,2 located at the bus bays just outside the station entrance. George Washington University's Charles E. Smith Center is home to GW men's and women's basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics and many concerts and other special events. The Smith Center, which seats 5,000 spectators, serves the University as well as the neighboring Foggy Bottom community. Located just two blocks south of the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro station at 22nd and G Streets, NW, Smith Center is easily accessible via Metrorail's Blue and Orange lines. Visit the Charles E.
