Noah Gallo-Brown, a senior at Garfield High School in Seattle, won the annual 7th Congressional District Art Competition, with an untitled entry that was chosen by a three judge panel. The decision was announced at a Seattle Art Museum reception on April 26th.
The judges were: Jen Graves, Art Editor from The Stranger; Stefan Grubner, Student Art Instructor, Frye Art Museum; and Naomi Ishisaka, Editor, ColorsNW Magazine. They selected Gallo-Brown's piece from among 22 entries submitted by students in schools throughout Rep. Jim McDermott's 7th Congressional District.
Noah and his mother will travel to Washington, D.C. to attend a ceremony on June 25th when the artwork will be official placed in the U.S. Capitol Building tunnel, where it will hang for one year. Millions of visitors to the nation's capitol use the tunnel annually to transit from the Capitol to House buildings.
For winning the competition, Noah-Gallo Brown will receive prizes provided by several local companies and organizations.
The House of Representatives first established congressional art competitions in 1982 as a way to encourage and acknowledge aspiring young artists with annual competitions in every Congressional District across America.
