Lowering Your Cell Phone Bill

October 22, 2008

Wireless technology allows us to communicate with friends, family and coworkers from almost anywhere in the world. Many Americans use mobile devices to access the internet, stay in touch with their teenagers, send text messages as well as make phone calls.

Unfortunately, surcharges and taxes are driving up the cost of our monthly bills. Tennesseans are paying a tax rate of more than 15% for wireless service which is significantly higher than the tax rates imposed on other goods and services.

The Cell Tax Fairness Act will prohibit state and local governments from imposing new fees on already overtaxed phone bills. I have cosponsored this legislation to keep prices low for the mobile services Americans have come to depend on.
