Border Agents Deserve Our Support

November 17, 2006

Criminals infiltrating our borders do not deserve greater rights than the agents policing them.  The men and women protecting our borders need our full support.  Our borders are becoming lawless, and U.S. Border Patrol agents provide the first defense against rampant illegal drug and human trafficking.

The conviction of two U.S. Border Patrol agents who shot a fleeing drug suspect on the Mexican border could undermine the efforts of other Border Patrol agents and further weaken our border security.  Although the suspect was arrested in possession of 800 pounds of marijuana, he was given immunity by prosecutors to testify against the Border Patrol agents whom were charged with causing serious bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, discharge of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, and a civil rights violation.  The Border Patrol agents now face up to 20 years in prison.

We must not undermine our border security by prosecuting Border Patrol agents for doing their job.
