An estimated 5.2 million Americans live with the devastation of Alzheimer’s disease. My heart goes out to those families facing this challenge. I can only imagine the emotional, physical and financial burdens associated with this illness.
Basic medical research provides the building blocks that lead to prevention, cutting edge treatments and, hopefully, one day a cure for Alzheimer’s. As a member of the House committee that makes funding decisions, I have supported medical research through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) year in and year out. Over the past decade, Congress has more than doubled the budget of NIH and last year, $644 million was spent on Alzheimer’s research.
More can be done and I will stand for increased research funding. Thanks advocating for the millions of people who are impacted by this devastating disease.
