Spratt to Discuss Energy Legislation on TV Show

WASHINGTON – On his next TV program, U.S. Rep. John Spratt (D-SC) will discuss major energy legislation before Congress.

“Last year, the United States spent eight times as much on oil imports as it did 30 years ago,” said Spratt.  “Oil imports account for more than 60 percent of U.S. consumption, up from just 25 percent 30 years ago.

“President Bush has pledged to end what he called ‘our addiction to oil.’  We are following up that pledge with legislation that supports renewable energy sources and alternative fuels, across a broad range, including ethanol, nuclear, clean coal, and various other technologies.  Our aim is threefold: a more secure America, a better environment, and a strong economy.”

Spratt’s guest on the program will be Congressman Rick Boucher, of Virginia, chairman of the Energy and Air Quality Subcommittee.

The program can be seen on the following stations:

WNSC-TV (ETV), Channel 30, Sunday, October 7, at Noon.

COMPORIUM CABLE, Channel 14, Tuesdays in October at 6:30 p.m.
