Spratt Statement on the Death of Rosa Parks

WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. John Spratt (D-SC) issued the following statement on Rosa Parks, who died last night at age 92.

“Andrew Jackson once said that one man with his mind made up can make a majority.  Rosa Parks proved that proposition.

“Tired of ‘giving up and giving in,’ Rosa Parks took her seat on a Montgomery bus and refused to be moved.  Her heroic determination inspired activists of all generations and marked the start of the civil rights movement.

“Though her story has been told and retold, and though she lived a good, long life, the end of her life is a loss to our country and the world.”
