Now that Congress has spent over $1 trillion bailing out those who caused our financial crisis, we need turn our attention back to Main Street. After all, Washington and Wall Street are not going to be the ones to fix our broken economy. Instead, it will be the small businesses in Smithville, Stanberry, and throughout the 6th district that are going to get our economy moving again.
Small businesses create 7 out of every 10 new jobs in this country. We need to help our small businesses by freeing up credit and encouraging them to invest in creating jobs. I support extending the tax break to allow small businesses to write off investments up to $250,000. By making it easier for small businesses to invest in growing their companies and creating jobs, we can jump start our economy.
While we invest in Main Street, we cannot forget those who were caught up in this bad economy through no fault of their own. I support extending unemployment benefits for those who are actively looking for work. They have been hurt by the irresponsible actions of Wall Street and should not be punished.
Lastly, we need to make sure that we keep taxes low for hard-working families. Nothing will damage our economy faster than raising taxes. We need to make middle class tax relief permanent, end the marriage penalty once and for all, and kill the death tax which hurts our small businesses and farmers.
By returning Washington’s focus back to Main Street, we can get our economy back on the right track.
