Our Founding Fathers felt that a revolution was in order to fight for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These three principles are the bedrock of our nation. In Congress, I have fought to uphold the sanctity of life.
This year was the 35th anniversary of the March to Life in Washington D.C. Recent progress includes the United States Supreme Court upholding legislation which bans partial birth abortions. This is the procedure in which an intact living fetus is partially delivered and killed. The procedure is usually performed during the latter part of the pregnancy.
This legislation to ban partial birth abortions was passed with my vote in 2003 and we are now finally putting an end to this disgraceful procedure. Partial birth abortion is wrong and it finally has been outlawed.
In this Congress, I am a co-sponsor of the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act which makes it a federal offense to transport a minor across state lines in order to avoid laws requiring parental or judicial notification before a minor can have an abortion. Last Congress the House passed a similar bill, but the Senate did not take it up.
I have vowed to oppose legislation which attempts to roll back or weaken pro-life legislation previously passed. As a father of three, I understand that life is both beautiful and precious. Like our founding fathers, I believe that we need to respect life. I will continue to fight for legislation that promotes a culture of life.
