Like most Missourians, I am concerned about our economy. And addressing the concerns of Missourians about our economy is a top priority for me. At the same time we are aggressively fighting the Global War on Terror, we also should be meeting the needs of Americans who need work. Even though our national economy is doing well now, if you are an out of work family, good statistics do not put food on the table.
The national media always enjoys the partisan battle over the economy and all the finger pointing. However, this is not a productive way to keep our economy thriving. While some in Washington only want to lay blame for potential economic problems facing our country, I want to find solutions. As we begin the 110th Congress this week, it is important for all Members of Congress to remember that we must work together to keep a strong economy.
Cutting taxes gives all Americans more money to spend, all small businesses more money to invest and employ workers, and all farm families a greater opportunity to grow and survive. Some in Congress want to reinstate many of our past unfair and onerous tax provisions, but I can assure you, I will stand united with my House colleagues to oppose any attempt to raise taxes or to reinstate the Death Tax. Our country needs an economic stimulus package not a new tax increase.
