An
award-winning artist, filmmaker, and author/publisher,
in her work Camille Billops addresses
social issues both broad and intimate,
including race, identity, family, and
human relationships. With her husband,
writer James Hatch, she is co-founder
of the Hatch-Billops Collection in New
York City, an extensive archive of Black
American cultural history.
This untitled
etching is related to the 1994 film
KKK Boutique Ain't Just Rednecks,
described by Billops and Hatch as "a
docu/fantasy about everybody's racism." Billops'
work was recently on display at the Library
of Congress in the exhibition Creative
Space: Fifty Years of Robert Blackburn's
Printmaking Workshop. An
online version of the exhibition is
available at: http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/blackburn/.
