Take Your Child to Work Day

Goal

You are invited to bring your 8-15 year old child to work on Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 9 AM to 4 PM, to experience some of the many careers represented in the NIH community. The program is designed to introduce them to the world of biomedical research and to the wide array of skills and services needed to support it.

A day at work will help your child discover the link between what they do now in school and what they can become in the future. They will have an opportunity to witness first-hand the vital public services that you and your co-workers provide each day. In addition, there will be many hands-on workshops and demonstrations scheduled to show them what other groups are doing here at NIH. We hope that this event will inspire your child, open their eyes to new possibilities, and encourage future careers in science.

Registration Information

Registration is required to participate in this event.

• The event begins with employees registering here online.

• As of Friday, April 4th, employees are able to Register a New Account for themselves and their children.

• Starting on Tuesday, April 8th, you will be able to select specific activities for your children under View/Modify Your Schedule.

• A listing of available activities is available to download and review with your children prior to making selections. See Schedule of Events.

• These activities are strictly for children between the ages of 8 and 15; children under age 8 will not be accepted for registration or to participate in the sponsored activities.

Registration Schedule

• Friday, April 4: Parents will be able to Register a New Account create their profile or 'register' as a participant. The full schedule of activities will also be posted, allowing parents to print it out and bring home to review with their children.

• Tuesday, April 8: Opportunity to select a first limited space activity (online registration will open at 8:30 am).

• Thursday, April 10: Opportunity to select a second limited space activity (online registration will open at 8:30 am).

• Friday, April 11: Opportunity to select a additional limited space activities, per availability (online registration will open at 8:30 am).

• Monday, April 14: The registration system will close Monday evening (online registration will be open until 5:00 pm).

• Tuesday, April 15: Parents will receive a customized email with their child's schedule showing all activities for which they are scheduled. Activity sponsors will receive class rosters for each of their sessions. In addition, registered parents will be able to sign-in and pick up registration materials in the South Lobby, Magnuson Clinical Research Center, Building 10, between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.

• Wednesday, April 16: Registered parents will be able to sign-in and pick up registration materials in the South Lobby, Magnuson Clinical Research Center, Building 10, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.

• Thursday, April 17: Registered parents will be able to sign-in and pick up registration materials in the South Lobby, Magnuson Clinical Research Center, Building 10, between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm.

• Thursday, April 24: Sign-in will be available in the South Lobby, Magnuson Clinical Research Center, Building 10, between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm.
