TRADE DEFICIT FIGURES CONTINUES DISTURBING PATH TO RECORD DEFICIT
Vigorous Congressional Oversight will Begin under New, Democratic Majority

(Washington D.C.)- U.S. Rep. Sander Levin (D-MI), a senior member of the House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, today offered the following comments as the U.S Department of Commerce released its monthly trade deficit figures:

"Except for the reduced price of crude oil, the monthly trade deficit numbers released today represent more of the same, and illustrate the need for strong Congressional oversight. Even at October's lower level of $58.9 billion, the trade deficit continues on pace to end up as a fifth straight annual record. Our exports on goods actually dropped in October, while at the same time our trade deficit in goods with China increased at an even faster pace than the previous month - increasing by 6.1 percent to $24.37 billion, rising above 4.6 percent in September."
