Ehlers to honor local high school students

 

Winners of the Congressional Medal of Merit and Congressional Art Competition to be announced

 
 

GRAND RAPIDS – Over 100 high school students from Kent, Ionia and Barry counties will be honored by Congressman Vernon J. Ehlers this Saturday, May 5 at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. Ehlers will present the Congressional Medal of Merit to 43 high school seniors from Michigan’s Third Congressional District for outstanding academic performance and civic involvement.

 

Following the ceremony, Ehlers will announce the winners of the annual Congressional High School Art Competition. One high school student from the Third District will have his or her artwork chosen to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. Artwork from all 64 of the participants will be on display in the atrium of the Ford Museum on Saturday.

 

The ceremonies will be held following a public town hall meeting hosted by Congressman Ehlers at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, located at 303 Pearl St. NW in Grand Rapids.

9:00 a.m.     Town hall meeting

10:30 a.m.   Congressional Medal of Merit award ceremony

Noon           Announcement of Congressional High School Art Competition winners

 

All events will be held in the auditorium of the Gerald R. Ford Museum.
