Getting Access to Programming

To receive MBone audio and video multicasts, special software must be installed on your desktop computer.

NOTE: Typical IP Multicast audio and video streams use the following data rates:

    Audio (compressed) : 32kbps, 13kbps, or 4kbps
    Video (using h261) : under 128kbps for 2 to 10 frames per second

With IP packet headers, the typical audio and video data stream will occupy 150 - 250 kbps. This data rate is for one stream consisting of both audio and video and is constant regardless of the number of recipients.
