Darwin at 200. Evolution Genomics Medicine

NHGRI Celebrates Darwin @ 200

On February 12, 2009, the National Human Genome Research Institute will celebrate the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin at events at the NIH's Bethesda campus and at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History. Events will observe Darwin's life and accomplishments and the 150th year since publication of his seminal work, On the Origin of Species. Read more

NHGRI Division of Intramural Research Releases Vision, Mission Statement

More than 500 professionals and support staff, working in facilities on and around the campus of the National Institutes of Health, conduct laboratory and clinical research within NHGRI's Division of Intramural Research. After a months-long effort led by the researchers themselves, the division has created a unique mission statement to guide its genetic and genomic studies. Read more


The National Human Genome Research Institute led the Human Genome Project for the National Institutes of Health, which culminated in the completion of the full human genome sequence in April 2003. Now, NHGRI moves forward into the genomic era with research aimed at improving human health and fighting disease.
