Formative Research – Engaging the Latino Community in Duplin County

Duplin County’s NCS team is planning to conduct focus groups in some Duplin County communities to explore the best ways to conduct recruitment and information sharing with the Latino and New Immigrant communities in the county.

In early 2009, the NCS Study team with the support of Duplin County Latino stakeholders will organize 10 focus groups of people who could participate in the study and elders within the Latino community.  “We want to clearly communicate what the study is about and learn how to inform residents of new immigrant communities about the Study in ways that are respectful and that garner trust,” said Deborah Bailey, Duplin County Study manager.

“Several members of the CAG have been very helpful in working with us to organize the logistics for this research project,” Bailey said. The Duplin County NCS is hiring two community outreach workers to engage the Latino community on a one-to-one level.
