The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences at the NIH and the NIH Office of Science Education have partnered with Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS), Videodiscovery, and teachers to bring you Chemicals, the Environment, and You: Explorations in Science and Human Health . A team of top scientists and educators developed the unit, which was field-tested by middle school teachers. Chemicals, the Environment, and You: Explorations in Science and Human Health is a FREE, teacher-ready curriculum supplement and interactive CD-ROM from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), one of the world's top medical research centers and a major sponsor of health studies. This module is a convenient, all-in-one resource that complies with the National Science Education Standards and is well organized for integration into a broader curriculum.

Students will engage in pertinent, inquiry-based activities that help them understand important scientific concepts and principles as they learn about the effect of chemicals on the environment and their own health. They will explore the science of toxicology -- the study of how chemicals affect human health. The supplement promotes active, collaborative, interdisciplinary learning in grades 7 and 8 by integrating science, mathematics, history, environmental studies, and human health. The module shows how science is linked to health and the environment. Science teachers interested in state-of-the-art teaching methods that promote an interest in science will find this module to be an innovative tool for developing new practices and strategies.
