Commercialization Assistance Program

The National Institutes of Health Commercialization Assistance Program (NIH-CAP) is a nationwide program funded by NIH and managed and executed by the Larta Institute.

The goal of NIH-CAP, now in its third year of implementation, is to assist some of the most promising life science companies in bringing their technologies to market.

This 10-month program is specifically designed to assist a select number of NIH SBIR Phase II grantees through training workshops, individual mentoring, and consulting sessions. (NOTE: NIH STTR Phase II grantees are not eligible to participate in this program.)

Participants in NIH-CAP benefit from several opportunities to present their technologies to the investment community, potential strategic partners, and licensees. Throughout the program, the mentoring experts at the Larta Institute address a variety of commercialization issues, including building strategic alliances, identifying sources for funding, defining intellectual property rights, creating a long- and short-term marketing strategy, and building a management team.

At the end of the program, a select group of NIH-CAP companies present their technologies at the NIH Life Sciences Showcase, the Larta Institute's annual showcase of promising technologies and a new addition to the Venture Forum. The showcase gives NIH-CAP companies the opportunity to present their technologies to a national audience of life science investors and industry players.
