caBIG^® in Action

The NCI (National Cancer Institute) has realized that in order to fulfill the tremendous potential for improved diagnostics and therapeutics arising from advances in genomics, proteomics, translational research, and nanotechnology, it is essential to organize large-scale, multi-disciplinary, and multi-institutional programs.

Since such programs generate huge amounts of data that must be collected, analyzed, and disseminated as a resource for the entire scientific community, a modern information technology infrastructure and informatics platform is required. It is also imperative that this infrastructure be easy to adopt, use, and connect with – so it can efficiently meet the needs of the cancer research community.

caBIG^® has been designated as the information infrastructure for all NCI advanced technology and program initiatives.
