EMERGENCY OVERVIEW:
This product is used for the treatment of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. It is an eye irritant and prolonged skin contact may produce burns, irritation, and dermatitis. It may cause sensitivity reactions. Ingestion of large amounts may cause gastrointestinal upset.

TARGET ORGANS: Eyes, and possibly skin, lungs and gastrointestinal system.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF EXPOSURE: N/D. Irritation of eyes, skin and respiratory tract would be anticipated effects. Prolonged skin contact with selenium sulfide reported to cause burns and dermatitis. Prolonged skin contact with sodium lauryl sulfate may produce burning, redness, and irritation. Ingestion of large amounts of sodium lauryl sulfate may produce stomach irritation, nausea and vomiting.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS AGGRAVATED BY EXPOSURE: N/D. Hazard information suggests asthma, allergies, hypersensitivity to ingredients, and pre-existing insult to the eyes, skin or respiratory tract.

Prolonged skin contact with selenium sulfide reported to cause burns and dermatitis. Prolonged skin contact with sodium lauryl sulfate may produce burning, redness, and irritation.

Selenium sulfide, mainly selenium monosulfide with some selenium disulfide or excess selenium and sulfur, produced liver tumors in rats at oral dosages of 3-15 mg/kg and liver and lung tumors in female mice at oral dosages of 20-100 mg/kg. A dermal study in mice with 2.5 % selenium sulfide lotion was negative. Titanium dioxide produced lung tumors in rats following inhalation of 250 mg/m3 for 6 hours/day in a two year bioassay.
