Some NCI Activities Require No Travel

Some NCI activities do not require travel. For example, reviewing patient education materials or Web sites in development can be conducted from a CARRA member's home. Participating in a teleconference about a NCI project can be done from home, and toll-free access numbers are provided.

CARRA members' responsibility to disseminate cancer research information to their networks and communities - an ongoing responsibility - also does not require NCI-related travel, and therefore the provisions below would not apply.

If the activity you are asked to participate in does involve travel away from your home, please note the information below.

  • Before You Make Travel Arrangements

    Before you make any travel arrangements, first speak with your Activity Contact. He/she provides detailed instructions on the location of the activity, and how to make travel arrangements if needed.

  • How Travel is Arranged

    There are two possible methods for making your travel arrangements.

    • Directly with NCI staff
    • Through a NCI contractor

    The method may vary depending on the type of activity. Your Activity Contact

    • Tells you how to proceed
    • Provides you with instructions and contact information

  • Process for Making Travel Arrangements

    CARRA members should follow the steps below when making travel arrangements:

    1. Review the travel instructions provided by your Activity Contact
    2. Work with the NCI-designated travel coordinator on travel arrangements

  • Reimbursement for Travel and Expenses

    For NCI activities that require travel, you will be reimbursed for all approved travel expenses that are documented according to the instructions provided to you by your Activity Contact.


IMPORTANT: You must travel according to government regulations to be reimbursed for travel expenses.
