Responsibilities
Goals of the Fellowship
- Understanding of the basic issues in bioethics and the literature on these issues
- Understanding of and capacity to participate in the IRB review of research protocols
- Understanding of and capacity to participate in ethics consultation
- Understanding of the elements of clinical research
- Completion of a mentored research project
- Competency in oral and written presentation of the results of the project
First Year Fellow's Responsibilities
- Participation in a year-long bioethics fellowship seminar
- Participation in journal club and works-in-progress seminar
- Attendance at IRB meetings as an observer
- Participation in ethics consultations
- Participation in Ethics Committee meetings
- Participation in the Clinical Center Course in Clinical Research
- Participation in the Ethical and Regulatory Aspects of Human Subjects Research course
- Attendance at the Bioethics Interest Group meetings
- Submittal of a proposal for a workshop, or a paper to the ASBH annual meeting
- Work on a mentored research project
Second Year Fellow's Responsibilities
- Participation in second year fellowship seminar
- Organization of and participation in journal club and works-in-progress seminar
- Performance of ethics consultation triage and actual consultations
- Work on a mentored research project
- Teach and present research at external meetings
