Data Integration

Data Integration is the process of creating repositories of research data from different sources. These sources could be different in terms of space (different storage units stocked in different places) or different in nature (data from different types of experiments such as DNA sequences and pathology pictures). Thanks to data integration, linked between these data are established and it becomes intuitive for researchers to have a broad vision of all their data as well as the correlation between different kinds of datasets.

The most common tool used in data integration are databases. Data could be categorized along with keywords which will allowed the links between datasets to form. These keywords are also important for further searches within the database, a little bit like one using a search engine on Internet and getting results matching the keywords entered.
