North Pacific Low-Pressure System

SeaWiFS saw this large low-pressure system over the northeast Pacific Ocean on May 28, 2003.

The Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) saw this large low-pressure system over the Gulf of Alaska on May 28, 2003. The grayish haze around the western and southern perimeter of the system suggests it may be entraining smoke from the intense fires that have been burning for weeks in northeast Asia. The light color of the coastal waters around Alaska (top center) is likely due to increased sediments carried by outflowing spring snowmelt.
