The Role of caBIG™

The cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG™) is a voluntary, interoperable network being developed under the leadership of the NCI’s Center for Bioinformatics (NCICB) to enable the sharing of data and tools. Begun in 2003 as a pilot project, caBIG™ provides the infrastructure and tools to enhance collaborations, increase the speed of the discovery process, improve the efficacy of cancer treatment, and ultimately benefit patient care.

OCG is developing large amounts of high-throughput genomic data intended to be shared with the research community to accelerate discovery. In order to maximize the accessibility and ease of interpretation of these data, OCG has committed to caBIG™ tools and infrastructure to achieve standardization and semantic interoperability.

Data from OCG’s programs are accessible through the library of caBIG™ programs and databases.
