No Association Found Between Amalgam Fillings and Diabetic Neuropathy

Dentists have used amalgam fillings to repair decayed teeth for over 150 years.  However, many questions remain about their possible long-term health effects in people.  As published in the March issue of the journal NeuroToxicology, NIDCR scientists and their colleagues report they were unable to detect any associations between dental amalgam and standard clinical measures for diabetic neuropathy in a large and unique cohort of male American military veterans.
