Telephone Assistance for Smoking Cessation
NCI provides telephone-based assistance for smokers who want to quit through the Cancer Information Service (CIS) at 1-800-4-CANCER.
Callers can speak with someone in English or Spanish in the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and territories in Guam and Saipan.
Smoking cessation service representatives:
- Assess the caller's individual smoking behavior.
- Provide brief educational messages.
- Help callers develop a personalized action plan for quitting.
- Reinforce the information with written materials.
