The Oregon Veterans Program is to provide the maximum level of employment and training opportunities for veterans. The Secretary of Labor, through the Veterans´ Employment and Training Services (VETS), funds programs to meet the employment and training needs of veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. Those Veteran Representatives are called Local Veterans Employment Representatives (LVER) and Disabled Veterans´ Outreach Program Specialists (DVOP).

Since the time of the Civil War, Veterans of the Armed Forces have been given some degree of preference in appointments to government jobs.
