NIDDK Hurricane Katrina Response

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) is vitally concerned about the health and welfare of victims of Hurricane Katrina, including NIDDK grantees at medical centers and universities in Gulf Coast states severely affected by the Hurricane. Information for NIH grantees and grantee institutions is available on the National Institutes of Health website at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/katrina/.

Nationwide there are 18.2 million people with diabetes and more than 500,000 people with kidney failure. Many people who suffer from diabetes and end stage kidney disease lived in the devastated areas. NIDDK provides a wealth of scientifically accurate information on these and a wide range of other topics for health care professionals, patients and the public.

The following references provide information that might be helpful to people who suffer from diabetes and its complications and the people who care for them.
