Colorado

Topics on this page:

Introduction

Colorado is one of the healthiest states in the country with nearly 4.5 million residents. We rank 10th nationwide in total yearly income, with 84% of residence covered by health insurance or Medicare/Medicaid. However, not all demographic groups in this region escape health disparities. The 157,347 African Americans in Colorado have the highest overall death rate and the shortest life expectancy. Latinos, numbering 894,173 experience the highest rates of cervical cancer and death from diabetes. The states 38,447 American Indians suffer the highest rates of chronic liver disease. Thirty percent of the state's population earns less than the Federal Poverty Level.

The Consumer Health Liaison and the MCR strives to narrow the gap of health disparities by providing access to quality health care and collaborating with agencies and organizations statewide to develop a stable infrastructure to support those efforts.
