Located at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
one of the nation's premier public universities, the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive
Cancer Center is North Carolina's only public NCI-designated comprehensive
cancer center. Our mission is to reduce cancer occurrence, death, and
suffering in our state and throughout the nation through treatment, research,
training, and outreach.
Soon to be housed in the new North Carolina Cancer
Hospital, UNC Lineberger's 12 multidisciplinary treatment programs provide
an integrated team approach and access to leading-edge treatment and
clinical trials. Our nine scientific programs and 23 shared resources
involve 260 investigators from across the entire UNC Chapel Hill campus.
Publishing across the scientific spectrum from fundamental precepts of
cancer biology to community intervention, faculty are contributing to
improved cancer treatment, early detection, and prevention. Center investigators
lead two NCI Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPOREs), an
NCI-funded center for nanotechnology and cancer, and three NIH Roadmap
Center grants. With a special focus on addressing disparities, the Center's
population sciences programs stimulate application and dissemination
of new discoveries into communities across the entire state. Together,
our outstanding clinicians, investigators, and staff work with our patients,
our communities, and our state to provide today's best care and tomorrow's
best hope. |
