Strategic Technology Office
The Strategic Technology Office (STO) researches, demonstrates, and develops high payoff projects in maritime, communications, special operations, and information assurance and survivability mission areas. These projects support military operations throughout the spectrum of conflict. STO adapts advanced technologies into military systems and also exploits emerging technologies for future programs. The ultimate goal is superior cost-effective systems the military can use to respond to new and emerging threats.

Partners with companies of all sizes, universities, and non-profits, often providing an early stage investment, to accelerate the development of innovative technologies that promise significant commercial payoffs and widespread benefits for the nation.

Bio:Info:Micro
The Bio:Info:Micro Program is a collaborative effort involving three DARPA offices—the Defense Sciences Office, the Information Processing Technology Office, and the Microsystems Technology Office. The program brings together interdisciplinary teams of researchers from the fields of biology, information technology and microsystems technology to work collaboratively to address fundamental research issues at the intersections of these broadly defined areas.

Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program
The mission of the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) is to improve the lives of cancer patients by finding better ways to treat, control and cure cancer. CTEP accomplishes this mission by funding an extensive national program of cancer research and by sponsoring clinical trials to evaluate new anti-cancer agents, with a particular emphasis on translational research to elucidate molecular targets and mechanisms of drug effects.

Department of Energy Human Genome Program Research
Offers progress, research, resources, and news on the Human Genome Project. The HGP is an international research effort to characterize the genomes of human and selected model organisms through complete mapping and sequencing of their DNA.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute
Supports investigators who carry out research in the fields of cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, and structural biology at universities and academic medical centers across the United States. In addition, the Institute has a grants program that enhances science education at all levels, from preschool through postgraduate training.

Medical Research Council (UK)
Improves health by promoting research into all areas of medical and related science through its own research establishments, grants to individual scientists, and support for postgraduate students.

Microsystems Technology Office
Exploit breakthroughs in materials, devices, circuits, and mathematics to develop beyond leading edge components with revolutionary performance and functionality to enable new platform capability for the Department of Defense.

National Center for Research Resources: Biomedical Technology Program
Supports research, development, and access to sophisticated technologies at resource centers nationwide. This area also funds grants for acquisition of state-of-the art shared instrumentation. Current areas of emphasis include high performance computing, molecular and cellular structural biology technologies, biomedical engineering, noninvasive imaging and spectroscopy, and mathematical modeling and computer simulations.

Office of Naval Research
Coordinates, executes, and promotes the science and technology programs of the United States Navy and Marine Corps through universities, government laboratories, and nonprofit and for-profit organizations.
