The Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer (HICCC) is the University’s organizational structure for laboratory, clinical and population-based cancer research. Its mission is to reduce the burden of cancer through scientific innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.


The Cancer Center, initially funded by the National Cancer Institute in 1972 and designated comprehensive in 1979, has nine research programs and 12 core facilities. Research initiatives focus on pathogenesis, molecular targets, cancer disparities, survivorship, and quality of life.


Cancer-related patient services are provided at New York-Presbyterian Hospital ranked seventh in the U. S. News & World Report 2005 rankings.
