TELESYNERGY® is a video-conferencing system with a variety of medical imaging devices attached. At the heart of the system, all TELESYNERGY® systems have the same basic components.
The core of each full TELESYNERGY® installation includes:
- Tandberg 6000 MXP Video Conference System
- Cisco 2600 Series Router
- Sun Workstation OR Windows NT/2000/XP Workstation for conference management and digital viewbox control
- Windows NT/2000/XP Workstation for color image manipulation and presentations (optional on non-Sun systems)
- Planar Analog or Digital Display Controller Board
- 1-2 High Resolution Grayscale Viewboxes
- 1-3 Video Monitors

TELESYNERGY® systems built around a Sun Workstation use NIH-developed software to control the digital viewboxes, conference camera, conference participants, and optional remote-controlled microscope. TELESYNERGY® systems built around a Windows Workstation use commercial off-the-shelf software for digital viewbox control.
Each non-computerized TELESYNERGY® installation uses:
- Tandberg 880 MXP Video Conference System
- 1-2 Video Monitors
Each institution may select any number of imaging and video devices to attach to their TELESYNERGY® system. The most common devices found at most TELESYNERGY® sites include:
- Olympus Bright Field Microscope (optional Fluorescence package, optional remote-control stage for Sun Workstation systems)
- Document Camera (backlit for sheet film)
- Color Video Printer
- SVHS Video Cassette Recorder
- Sheet Film Digitizer
- Video Marker System
- Video Timebase Corrector for auxilliary devices
- 42" Plasma Screen
Other optional medical devices used at some intitutions include:
- Patient Exam Camera
- Eye/Ear/Nose/Throat (EENT) Instrument Suite
- Color Flow Doppler Ultrasound System
- Non-Mydriatic Retinal Camera
- DVD Recorder
In addition, all TELESYNERGY® systems have an auxiliary video connection (S-Video) to allow sites to temporarily attach other video devices to the telemedicine system.
TELESYERGY® systems can be configured with a variety of audio and video switches to connect patient exam rooms, other conference rooms, and auditoriums in the same building into the telemedicine conference.
