The FRE and APA are contracts that are maintained through the NCI Animal Production Program (APP). They produce a variety of strains of mice and rats for use in scientific research. They are both located in Frederick, Maryland and are operated by Charles River Laboratories, Inc., of Wilmington, Massachusetts.
