Abstract: | (CIT): Sex hormones - the gonadal steroid hormones estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone - are the focus of considerable scientific and popular attention. They control sexual development and reproduction, but they affect other aspects of health, particularly as their production declines with age. How do these hormones work? How does their interplay with environmental factors and the aging process affect female and male health in adulthood? What's the current understanding of the role of sex hormones in health conditions such as mood disorders, perimenopause/menopause in women, and reproductive dysfunction in men? |
