National Survey to Evaluate the NIH SBIR Program
October 17, 2003 NOTE: The National Survey to Evaluate the NIH SBIR Program report (PDF - 1 MB) file has been replaced. A typographical error in Section 3.2.3 "Satisfaction with NIH SBIR Program" (page 3-26) has been corrected.
Through the SBIR Program, small businesses have contributed to the NIH mission of improving human health through biomedical and behavioral research, while enhancing the commercial potential and societal import of their technological innovations. The National Survey to Evaluate the NIH SBIR Program report (PDF - 1 MB) and Appendices (PDF - 1.4 MB) detail the NIH SBIR Program. It includes statistics and program results from companies that received Phase II awards between 1992 and 2001. A special note of appreciation goes to the SBIR awardees who so willingly participated in the study to describe their experiences with the SBIR program and their project outcomes.
NIH will continue to monitor SBIR/STTR program outcomes. If your firm has been a participant of NIH's SBIR/STTR programs, we would like to hear if you have achieved success in your endeavors. To submit a success story, click here.
