Ray Charles Post Office Bill Signed by President Bush

(Washington, DC)— On Tuesday, July 12, President Bush signed into law a bill (PL 109-25), sponsored by Congresswoman Diane E. Watson (CA-33rd), designating the U.S. postal facility located at 4960 W. Washington Blvd., in Los Angeles, California, as the Ray Charles Post Office Building.

“Ray Charles was a giant among artistic giants,” remarked Congresswoman Watson.  “It is my hope that the Ray Charles Post Office will be only the first of many posthumous honors for this great American treasure.”

Ray Charles was a resident of the 33rd congressional district during a large part of his formative musical career.

A ceremony to dedicate the Ray Charles Post Office is scheduled for late August.
