Rep. Watson Celebrates the American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. |
||||
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Diane E. Watson presented a certificate to the American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. at the Culver City Senior Center. Rep. Watson issued the followed statement: “Thank you for inviting me to share in the celebration of the American Gold Star Mothers and the rededicating of the Rose Garden. “It is my understanding that the organization was named after the Gold Star that families hung in their windows in honor of deceased veterans and that the original copy of the Federal Charter granted to the American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. was placed in the Archives of Congress. “The American Gold Star Mothers have suffered the supreme sacrifice of motherhood in the loss of their sons and daughters during many World Wars. In response, these noble women decided to start an organization for the purpose of preserving the memory of their loved ones and to assist the spouses and dependents to “wade through the red tape” of filing benefit claims to the Veteran’s Administration. “I commend your dedication and exemplary service by presenting this Congressional Certificate of Recognition in honor of the American Gold Star Mothers’ tremendous courage, dedication and achievements.”
