Acute Health Effects: From MSDS
Inhalation: Breathing vapors may cause upper respiratory tract irritation, experienced as discomfort in the nose and throat, and a discharge from the nose; respiratory irritation, experienced as cough, chest discomfort, production of sputum, difficulty with breathing, pulmonary edema and hemorrhage; headache, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, weakness, confusion, visual disturbances, tingling, numbness and shooting pains in the hands and forearms, ringing in the ears, difficulty in walking and coma. Respiratory arrest can occur leading to asphyxia. Prolonged inhalation of high concentrations can cause liver and kidney degenerative lesions and depression of bone marrow activity. Tachypnea as well as visual, neurologic and metabolic toxicity has been reported in inhalation abusers of methanol containing products.

Contains methanol which is highly toxic and may produce severe acidosis, blindness or death. Visual effects from methanol include blurred vision, double vision, changes in color perception, restriction of visual fields and complete blindness.

With massive overdoses of methanol, liver, kidney and heart muscle injury have been described. There may be a delay of several hours between swallowing methanol and the onset of signs and symptoms. Toxicity is related to the degree of acidosis produced in the time interval between exposure and treatment. The range of toxicity of methanol is extremely variable. Ingestion of as little as 4 ml of absolute methanol has caused blindness.

Skin Contact: Prolonged contact may cause skin irritation seen as localized reddening and swelling. Prolonged contact may cause severe irritation. Xylene, methanol and 2-butoxyethanol may be absorbed through the skin possibly resulting in toxicity.

Eye Contact: Vapors cause irritation. Liquid causes severe irritation with excess tear production, excess blinking, reddening and swelling of the conjunctiva, and possible iris and corneal injury.

Ingestion: Unlikely source of exposure with an aerosol product. Swallowing may cause gastrointestinal disturbances including a burning sensation in the throat and stomach, abdominal pain, belching, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, visual disturbances, coma or death. May cause central nervous system depression with unsteady gait and sedation. Aspiration into the lungs may occur during ingestion or vomiting, resulting in injury. Kidney and liver dysfunction may occur.
Chronic Health Effects: From MSDS
Long term inhalation exposure can cause chronic headache, chest pain, nausea, mental confusion, breathing difficulties, heartbeat abnormalities, numbness in limbs, fever, reduced white blood cell count, malaise, and fatigue. Skin irritation can occur. Prolonged or repeated contact with this product may possibly lead to irritation and dermatitis. Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling the product may be harmful or fatal.

Because of its irritating and defatting properties, this material may aggravate an existing skin condition. Breathing of vapor and/or mist may aggravate asthma and inflammatory or fibrotic pulmonary disease.
