In July 2006, NIMH supported a workshop that focused on classification and diagnosis of eating disorders. The specific goals of this workshop were to address key, unresolved issues of contention in the current nosology of eating disorders; to identify existing data sets that may be useful for exploring what changes, if any, ought to be introduced in the upcoming fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V); and to discuss the most pressing research questions related to diagnosing and classifying eating disorders.
