DOC Prepares for Potential Impacts of Measure 57 and Measure 61

Oregonians will have the choice between two competing measures on the November 2008 ballot. One referral is Measure 61, which has qualified for the November ballot. The other is the legislatively referred Measure 57.

Both measures provide for more severe sentences for certain property and drug crimes, and Measure 57 provides alcohol and drug treatment for certain offenders.
Department of Corrections
Mission
The mission of the Department of Corrections is to promote public safety by holding offenders accountable for their actions and reducing the risk of future criminal behavior.
Victims' Services
Oregon has a variety of crime victims' services. One is VINE, which is designed for all citizens needing information about offenders' status.
Inmate Services Unit
The Inmate Services Unit is responsible for a broad variety of services to institution staff, inmates and their families in support of the Oregon Accountability Model and the Counselor Caseload Initiative.
