HIV Protease and Beyond:
January 30-31, 2009 |
|
Organized by the NCI Center of Excellence in HIV/AIDS & Cancer Virology with support from the Center for Cancer Research and NIH Intramural AIDS Targeted Antiretroviral Program, the symposium commemorates the 20th anniversary of the publication of the crystal structure of HIV protease, a turning point in the utilization of structural information for drug design. In addition, the relationship between structural biology and drug design for other HIV targets will be emphasized. The meeting format will consist of oral presentations by the invited speakers, as well as two sessions of contributed posters. Speakers and poster presenters will address both the historical aspects of structural studies of HIV proteins as well as their current and planned research. The first day of the symposium will be devoted mainly to HIV PR, and the second to other HIV enzymes, as well as proteins involved in viral assembly and entry. The meeting is open to all scientists interested in structural studies of HIV proteins and their application to the design of improved antiviral therapies. Lectures will be held in the auditorium of Building 549 on the Frederick campus of the National Cancer Institute, located approximately 50 miles from Washington DC and serviced by three major airports (Washington Dulles and Reagan, as well as Baltimore Marshall). A number of rooms has been reserved in local hotels and participants should make their own reservations, mentioning the "HIV PR Symposium". A preliminary program of the Symposium, directions to NCI Frederick, and the registration page are provided as separate links.
