FAQ
Finding a List of MEDLINE Journals by Subject
Question: How do I find a list of current MEDLINE journals on a particular subject?
Answer:
For a list of broad subject terms applied to MEDLINE journals, see http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/journals/subjects.html. These categories are not as specific or comprehensive as the subject terms applied to records in the NLM Catalog.
You can also use LocatorPlus, our web-searchable library catalog, to search for a list of current MEDLINE journals on a topic:
LocatorPlus mainly uses Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). If you do not know the appropriate MeSH term for your subject, you can use the MeSH Browser to identify it at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html
- Go to LocatorPlus at http://locatorplus.gov/
- Click on the "Search LocatorPlus" button
- Click on the "Advanced Menu Search" tab
- In the "Search For:" box, type in the MeSH term
- In the drop-down box to the right, select "any of these" for one-word terms, or "as a phrase" for terms with multiple words
- In the "Search In:" drop-down box, select "Subject"
- Make sure that the AND radio button is selected
- In the "Search For:" box, type medline
- In the drop-down box to the right, select "any of these"
- In the "Search In:" drop-down box, select "Abstract/Index Tags"
- Make sure that the AND radio button is selected
- In the next "Search For" box, type 1 5 (that's 1 space 5),
- In the drop-down box to the right, select "any of these"
- In the "Search In:" drop-down box, select "Indexing Status"
- Click on the gray "Search" button (towards the bottom of the page)
