CDE Leadership Working Group

The CDE Leadership Working Group has been formed by the VCDE WS to provide thought leadership and to serve as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for caBIG™ Common Data Element (CDE) Standard Reviews.  This group is comprised of the “Guides to CDE Standard Reviews” and representation from the NCI Context Curators.  The “CDE Guides” are charged with the standardization and promotion of maximum reusability of CDEs as identified by the domain workspaces in the caBIG™ program.  Such reusability considerations will be based on the harmonized approach of UML-based and forms-based CDE curation for effective reuse in tool/application development and in more traditional form usage.  The CDE Guides will create a list of reusable CDEs, evaluate the importance of each proposed standard, and oversee the process of moving these CDEs to caBIG™-adopted standards, either through existing or modified CDE review processes.

CDE Leadership Work Group goals include:

• To evaluate how CDEs are identified for consideration as standard.
• To properly evaluate the review process and identify areas of improvement.
• To work with the NCI Context Curators to prevent duplication of effort.
• To evaluate CDE versioning rules and their impact on CDE standards.
• To continually author/edit the list of recommendations to ease and improve the reuse of metadata.

The CDE Leadership Working Group is part of the Vocabularies & Common Data Elements (VCDE) Workspace.

Who should get involved?

The CDE Leadership Working Group is comprised of two CDE Guides, Rakesh Nagarajan (Washington University) and Lynne Wilkens (University of Hawaii).  The CDE Guides work in partnership with Dianne Reeves (NCICB) as the representative of the NCI Context Curators.  The CDE Leadership Group is further supported by VCDE WS community members in the evaluation of existing data standards and processes for the development of recommendations to the VCDE WS.
